Dress for Slenderness

We could also call this "The Diet-less Diet." There are many things you can do with your clothes to present a more slender you!

First off, think in monochrome. Solids are more slenderizing than prints, and one color from bottom to top often does better than two.  Think of it as unifying your look.

Color is always wonderful, but basic black is very forgiving. You can dress it up and cheer it up with accessories. If you are wearing two colors, try to make sure they don't meet at your waist. It will cut you in two and make you look chunky. A shirt or jacket that graces your hips or thighs often creates the best effect. (If you're wearing an open jacket, a shirt tucked into pants or a skirt looks fine.)

Also think in terms of clean lines. A-line and pencil-type skirts emphasize length rather than width. They will make you look better than pleats and billowy items. Same with pants. Pleats at the abdomen give everyone a stomach -- even skinny people! Try to stay away from them.

Most importantly, wear clothes that fit. Far from making a person look thin, baggy, oversized clothes just look sloppy. Conversely, tight clothes accentuate extra pounds. Tight jeans draw attention to a large behind and tight jackets look too small and show bulges. The most attractive item is an item that fits well, no matter what your size or weight. It signifies that you care about your looks.

There's no substitute for proper foundation -- and I'm not talking about make-up! There are all types of wonderful undergarments these days that slim you down and smooth you out from bottom to top. These modern-day equivalents of a corset (but not nearly as uncomfortable) are worth the investment. Some will even smooth you out down to below the kneecaps!

A little heel to your shoe makes your leg -- in fact, your entire body -- look longer. Warm-toned hose rather than anything pale or white looks best, and skin-toned shoes that blend with the color of your legs will also give an illusion of length and grace to your entire being.
